Fmr. Chief of Staff to Head CFO Think-Tank 2010: The Premier CFO Event for Financial Professionals

Chilli IQ’s CFO Think-Tank 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney is fortunate enough to be hosting a select group of speakers from a vast landscape of organisations with high levels of Finance knowledge.

One of the events most notable is keynote speaker Arthur Sinodinos AO. Mr Sinodinos is a senior advisor to the National Australia Bank in the Business Banking and Private Wealth division. Throughout a lengthy career of positions both held in public and private office, his major position of note was the assistance he gave to former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard.

Mr Sinodinos was brought in at the early stages of Howard’s Prime Ministerial tenure, being appointed Policy Director for his office. He further progressed through the elite ranks of the cabinet in 1997 when he was officially appointed Howard’s Chief of Staff, a position he held through to 2006.

His 11 years at the helm of Australian politics has given him the expertise to be one of Australia’s most informed political and economic commentators. Speaking on the direction of the Australian Economy he will surely start the event off with a bang. Not every event offers opportunities to be up close to such economic notoriety. And with the support of other professionals who are speaking such as Sean Unwin, CFO of Colliers International Australia; Janet Day, CFO of leading law firm Freehills; and Sara Watts, CFO of IBM international, the event is certainly not one to be missed for professionals who want to keep abreast of were finance in Australia is heading.

A Quick Look at Our 5th Lawtech Summit & Awards Instalment

Last week Chilli IQ hosted its 5th Lawtech Summit & Awards event at the Hyatt Regency in Sanctuary Cove. In the same vein as previous years, this year’s event was a mixture of great learning, fantastic networking and a hell of a lot of fun.

In the first day the audience was left stunned as Californian Knowledge Manager, Eric Hunter, introduced his firms cloud computing platform. This was then followed by the always entertaining and well respected thoughts of Phil Argy of Argystar.com. The day closed with an intense discussion lead by our official Advisory Board members which saw questions and answers being thrown from all sides of the room.

Phil Scorgie closed the day’s discussions with a simple ‘where’s the drinks?’ and the night rolled on as delegates and sponsors were hypnotized by the magical escapades of the events resident entertainment, Mr Magic himself, Ophir the magician.

After being stunned by how exactly Ophir managed to stuff a whole cigarette through a suit jacket or make a spoon bend Matrix style: it was down to business for delegates with the awards night. All categories were hotly contested, with the winners showered in glory whilst the losers were left wondering about what they could do to get the call up next year.

Drinking due to despair of a loss or to celebrate a victory the night rolled on in emphatic fashion, with sponsors and delegates alike enjoying an intimate dinner before meandering around the pool table into the early hours of the morning.

Day two began with a punch as the conference travelled 20,000 km in an hour and half via video-links to both the UK and Canada. Jenny Owen of Telstra then gave an eye opening presentation about initiatives from the other side fence. Chris Holmes followed by giving a thorough analysis of Mobile technologies and their effect on the workplace. The day was finished off with sponsors announcing a drove of quality prizes to the lucky few with QLD Police Detective Brian Hay then scaring the life out of everyone when discussing online security threats.

Overall Lawtech was again a quality event based around expert speakers and enthusiastic sponsors. Who knows what could be in the works for next year’s, be sure to stay tuned. We can guarantee however that it will be as enjoyable and rewarding as the last.

Tour de Mobile: Technology outside of the four walls

Mobile technologies are continuing to generate greater options to the corporate world. There is no greater industry than law where these options are rigorously assessed as to their benefits of assisting lawyers with their external communications.

With physical time at ones desk diminishing and as well as the expectation to remain in contact increasing, lawyers need sufficient technologies which allow them to remain on the move and in contact at the same time. This then places great importance of the decisions made by information technology experts to choose the best platforms and systems to go with.

Chris Holmes, Director of Business Technology and Services at Allens Arthur Robinson is one of the professionals appointed to deal with such technical dilemmas and decisions. Speaking at Chilli IQ’s 5th Annual Lawtech Summit & Awards, Chris will present a session analysing the different tools and applications available in order for IT divisions to ensure the expectation of connectivity is met.

A session like this is a must see for all legal technologist professionals. It will be a rare opportunity to see some objective light shed on a subject where information is generally acquired through the liaising with vendor organisations.

This year’s 5th Annual Lawtech Summit & Awards will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Sanctuary Cove QLD. For more information on the event email info@chilliiq.com.au or to read the brochure click here
